Hot pepper paste (Korean name: gochujang) is the basic seasoning used in Korean cooking. Hot pepper paste is made from hot pepper powder, fermented soybean, white rice flour and salt. It has unique taste of hot, sweet and savory flavor. Its sweet taste comes from rice or barley, its hot taste and red color from powdered hot peppers. It is mainly used as a condiment, dipping sauce or mixing sauce.
